Distraction Is The Obstruction
To The Construction
Distraction Is An Obstruction to The Construction is an interactive installation that mimics the mechanism of daydreaming.
Daydreaming is a combination of random thoughts, a little bit of reminiscence of the day, and some memories from the past. It is an activity of how we escape mentally from boring tasks and an adventure of our wandering mind.
In this installation, a large plate spins at a gentle pace with lots of objects moving randomly on the main surface, which represents the collective thoughts that run through the mind in a daydream. This movement invites passers-by to approach and insert symbolic tokens into the slowly spinning sculpture.
Once inserted, the token “distracted“ from the movement of the spinning plate. This kinetic installation invites travellers to rewrite and drift away in the daydream.
This installation is commissioned by The Place Taipei, under the given topic, "Day dreaming".
