Leaf Becomes Flower When It Loves
Leaf becomes flower when it loves” is a kinetic installation activated under different weather circumstances that trigger unexpected movement.
Taking inspiration from the Art Deco elements and colours from the city, I was interested in the post/colonial history and how societies grow under a structure that wasn’t made for them, somehow leading to intricate and complex culture that is strange but extremely fascinating.
I added a playful twist into the metal railings that can be found everywhere in the city, using interactive elements to catch people’s attention as well igniting people’s imagination enabling a kind of self-expression they never thought was possible, moreover the piece creates a sense of surprise in daily life that offers city dwellers “distraction” from the hustle and bustle for a little bit.

This piece has involved different research methodologies, such as case studies, site visiting, interviewing the locals, and collaborating with the local factories.
This installation was a result of my artist residency at TIFA Working Studios in Pune, India, and part of the international artist exchange programme between Bamboo Curtain Studio Taipei and TIFA, and was sponsored by the Ministry of Culture Taiwan.
